Pen pals: The Devizes and Anna-Essinger school teams

Youth football: Devizes Town Under 14s welcomed their visitors from Anna-Essinger School, Ulm situated between Stuttgart and Munich with open arms on a warm summer evening.

Straight from the kick off the hosts produced some fine passing moves and entertaining possession play, for the visitors strong centre back Nikolas Taporek was adamant of the ball going past him and defended superbly.

It took Devizes 20 minutes to test super keeper Patrick Sofz who commanded between the sticks confidently and superbly.

Taporek was in control of set pieces and goal kicks and tested the resolute Devizes defence, Rob Stratton comfortably controlling his back line. With a packed midfield of Aaron Chivers, Declan Mcinery, George Dunford and Ben List the ball remained at the host's feet for majority of the half.

An action packed remaining 10 minutes of the half saw both teams crack the bar, first up was Mona Boley's thundering strike which clipped the top of the bar and resulted in a goal kick, a quick counter attack from Kieran Hall who sublimely played in Mcinery out wide found himself winning a corner, the resulting corner was powerfully headed against the bar by Stratton and the ball cleared of danger.

The second half proved tiredly for the visitors and the home side capitalised on this scoring 4 goals without a sniff of a chance being given to the visiting team.

The first goal came from a fantastic cross-field strike after being played in buy the influential List, Dunford made no mistake firing across goal leaving Sofz no chance.

Devizes second came 10 minutes later again List providing, after nifty footwork on the right, a pinpoint cross found oncoming Mcinery who directed his header wonderfully into the back of the net, again Devizes seizing they could score more attacked through Rory Collins who darted forward past a number of players before being crowded out signalled a flurry of goals could be on the cards.

The home sides 3rd and pick of the bunch came from winger Stefan Rossi, Rossi picked the ball up just inside the opposing half, took on 3 players before rocketing the ball onto the underside of the bar and across the line.

The final goal came 8 minutes from time; Dunford scoring his second with an acute header from List's corner.

In good spirits both teams gelled brilliantly at the final whistle enjoying a barbeque and drinks for all before the home side waved off the school team from Germany who continue their trip of England.
