GCSE students have the chance to try their hand at film-making in a free four-day workshop on animation at the University of Bath in Swindon.

A total of 24 pupils will be able to learn from animation professionals about storyboarding, character-making and sound effects.

They will use plasticine or cut-out collage to create short animated films that will premiere to family and friends at the end of the four days.

The Amazing Animation Workshop will run from April 2 to 5 at the Oakfield campus from 10am to 4pm. The closing date for applications is March 1.

The free workshop is part of the University's Creative Arts Week programme, aimed at raising aspirations and participation in higher education.

The programme gives young people the opportunity to try new activities in a higher education setting and to learn from undergraduates from the University about life as a student.

"The workshop is about getting young people involved in a exciting and imaginative art on the University campus," said Anne Olesen, organiser of the workshop.

"It's about starting early so that University isn't a foreign place to them and inspiring them to think about higher education when they leave school.

"Our university students can answer questions about life as a student and they can be role models for young people who might not have had the confidence or information to think about going on to university."

This is the fourth year of Creative Art Weeks at the Oakfield campus.

The workshop is free of charge, including materials, lunch and refreshments.
